Most people arrive here after a social worker, a clinic, or a legal aid attorney has already pointed them in our direction. Others find the page on their own, usually late at night, and are not sure whether they are ready to speak to anyone yet. Both routes are fine. What matters is that you know which door to knock on and what happens after you do.
Send a short message through the contact form with a first name or a safe callback number. We do not need a case history in writing. The first call runs about forty minutes and is mostly about what you want to happen next, not what has already happened.
Reply within one working day
Social workers, clinic staff, and attorneys can request the referral pack by email. Include the client's language preference and whether the referral is for counselling, court preparation, or both. Leave out graphic detail and identifying information; we will ask for what we need during intake.
Pack sent within two working days
If someone is in immediate danger, the unit is not the fastest route. Call the police or a shelter directly, then contact us afterwards so we can help with the follow-up: protection orders, transport, school arrangements, or a place to stay for the first few nights.
Same-day callback where possible
Not everyone who reaches this page is ready to book an intake call. Some are checking whether the unit is real, whether the language is plain, and whether anything they send will be stored. Leave an email address and we will send occasional notes: what changed in the referral process, how court preparation works in practice, and short written guides in English with isiXhosa and Afrikaans summaries. No case details, no names, no follow-up calls unless you ask for one.
One message every few weeks. Unsubscribe from any of them. If you would rather speak to someone first, the unit's contact details are on the contact page, and a social worker or clinic can request the referral pack on your behalf.
If you are not sure whether you need counselling, court preparation, or a referral to a shelter, start here. The desk answers calls and written enquiries during working hours, and every route below leads to a person rather than a queue.

Written enquiries are answered within two working days. Please do not send case documents by email.
Monday to Thursday, 08:30 to 16:30. Friday, 08:30 to 14:00. Closed on public holidays.
If the line is busy, leave a first name and a safe number to call back. We do not leave messages with third parties.
Have a safe number and a safe time to be reached, and decide in advance what you are comfortable saying on a first call. You do not need to describe what happened to open a file with us. A first name, a district, and what kind of help you are looking for is enough to begin.
